Delta Orinoco (3 Days/2 Nights)

Tour Overview:

1st Day:
Our tour begins in the morning at about 7:00AM, either in Ciudad Bolívar, in Puerto Ordaz or in Maturín. After a drive of approximately 2:45 hours, you will arrive at the small fishers’ village San José de Buja. Once there, you will continue by boat, which will bring you to our Jungle Camp. After your arrival, you will be assigned rooms and afterwards there will be some time to get accustomed to the camp and the area. A nice lunch follows, after which you will be boarding a Knaua (a native indian boat), to get some first impressions of the unique and beautiful nature. Warao indios will join on the trip, with paddels and without any motor. With a little luck, you might even hash a look on Torninas (Dolphins).
Later today a hike through the jungle is scheduled. This will be an excellent opportunity, to discover the surroundings of the camp and get in touch with the unique flora and fauna of the Delta. You return to the camp for dinner and afterwards will head out into the night, equipped with flashlights, to find some Caymans in the night. (B/L/D)

2nd Day:
The morning begins with a nice breakfast. Afterwards and with a full belly, you are boarding your motorboat again and head out towards a small farm of the Warao Indians. From there you will enjoy an impressive panorama view on a huge laguna, full of swimming boas and a horizon full of Corollieros and Moriche palms. While passing through the river by boat, you will see capuchin and howler monkeys, Aras, Toucans and the Matin Pescador, the icebird. In addition there will be a large amount of other bird cultures.
Once at the hacienda, which is run by indigenous Warao, which are born in the Orinoco Delta, you get to enjoy a unique biotope, which just recently did allow us to settle water buffalos. But the farm does not only live from its animals, but also from a wide variety of fruits such as papaya, citrus and banana plantations, etc. After your stay in the hacienda, you will also get the opportunity, to go out with the boat to fish Piranhas. These are going on the barbecue for dinner, in the evening.  But don’t worry: Even if the catch is not enough to feed the whole group, we will compensate with chicken and pork. Those of you, who are a little lucky, might even be able to catch a Catfish. After the fishing trip, you are returning to the camp for dinner, after which you once again have the opportunity, to fish with candlelight or just relax watching the sun going down. (B/L/D)

3rd Day:
This morning you will enjoy a great breakfast, after which you have the necessary power, to go on an exploration trip by boat. On the way and if lucky, a dolphin may be accompanying your boat. We will pass some hammocks and houses of the Wareo Indios, which you try not to disturb. However, at times it does happen that a Wareo family does invite tourists, to visit their houses in order to get a better understanding of their living. In this case, we would like to ask you to refrain from using your camera and be very discrete, in order to respect the Wareo’s culture and privacy.
During the trip, it does also occasionally happen, to meet some Tortugas (Turtles), which are sun bathing on the woods in the river. After an interesting trip, you are heading back to the camp for lunch, before the transfer back to San José de Buja does occur. Here our tour ends and you are given the opportunity to transfer back to Puerto Ordaz, Maturín or Ciudad Bolivar. On the whole trip there will be several opportunities to buy souvenirs from the Warao Indians. (B/L/-)
